Maria Sharapova breezed passed her first opponent in the U.S Open, Michaella Krajicek 6-3, 6-0 in, in 59 minutes in her rain-delayed opening match of the tournament last night.

Sharapova is something of a quiet favorite at this year’s U.S. Open. She has won two titles this season. She holds a 41-8 match record. She has a favorable draw and reigning champion Kim Clijsters is out with a wrist injury.

Sharapova Confident ahead of the U.S. Open

Maria Sharapova says she’s feeling confident that she will capture the U.S. Open title for the first time this year.

The Russian world number four has won two titles this year, in Indian Wells and San Diego, and has reached the semi-finals or better in nine of her 10 tournaments.

“I’m really excited because I’m going into a grand slam with a lot of good matches under my belt, a good title, and, most importantly, I feel healthy,” the 19-year-old said.

“It’s good to be back and ready.”

It’s a classic case of 1 guy with two pretty gals. Rumors are that Andy Roddick is currently head over heels in love with Sharapova and even People Magazine reported that the couple were seen together at the Bacara Resort & Spa in Santa Barbara, holding hands, and at one point, Sharapova planted herself on his lap.

Maria Sharapova Nike Ad “I Feel Pretty” -Video

Nike has teamed up with Sharapova and produced this ad video entitled “Get Pretty”, the ad is in conjuction with the final tennis slam of the year beginning August 28.

The commercial features appearances by tennis Hall of Fame inductee John McEnroe, his brother and captain of the 2004 U.S. Men’s Olympic tennis team, Patrick McEnroe, and two-time tennis Olympic gold medalist Mary Joe Fernandez.

And yes Sharapova does do the ‘grunt” right in the end of the video…hey..she’s famous for that grunt sound!
