Maria Sharapova skiing on water in Arizona

August 14, 2008

Maria Sharapova had to skip the 2008 Beijing Olympics because of a shoulder injury, and as you know she's currently rehabilitating in Arizona . But it's not all work and no play for the Russian. We see she's having a good time skiing on water, posing in nature, enjoying good meals. Well, it's not that we expected Masha to get too depressed. More photos after the cut. Maria Sharapova to miss the 2008 US Open

August 2, 2008

For the first time in her career Maria Sharapova will skip a Grand Slam — right shoulder injury forces the Russian to miss the 2008 US Open. Previously, she had withdrawn from the Beijing Olympics . World No.3 Sharapova met with Dr. David Altchek, the premier shoulder doctor in the world, who examined all her tests from April and discovered a moderate tear in her rotator cuff tendon. The doctor couldn’t believe she was playing that long with her injury . "You can imagine that I was not very thrilled to hear that my medical team did not see this tear in my shoulder back in April," said the 21-year-old on her website . It's a shame, even when you have as much money as Sharapova you receive false diagnosis. Luckily, Sharapova’s injury didn’t get much worse since April and she probably doesn't need surgery. She will go to Arizona next week to do extensive rehab, and is expected to recover in 2-3 months . Share This

Ana Ivanovic stunned by Tamira Paszek at Rogers Cup, Jelena Jankovic eyes No.1 spot again

August 1, 2008

Ana Ivanovic of Serbia was upset 6-2 1-6 6-2 by Austrian Tamira Paszek in the third round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal, which opened the door for Jelena Jankovic to reach the No.1 world ranking. The 17-year-old Paszek, who I thought would continue her last year's rise this season, won just three matches since the Australian Open and had gone five tournaments without a victory until a first-round win last week in Los Angeles. But now she managed to take out a top-ranked player. Playing her first match since Wimbledon, Ivanovic was far from a player that won the French Open in May and triumphed on the same Canadian hardcourt two year ago. The 20-year-old Serb was bothered by an inflamed right thumb and the pain made her consider a visit to Europe to see a doctor rather than going directly to the Beijing Olympics. I hope her participation in the Olympics won't have the same destiny like Maria Sharapova's . Ivanovic’s early loss in Montreal gave world No.2 Jelena Jankovic another chance to become the new No.1. Last week in Los Angeles Jankovic had a chance to grab the No.1 spot in the rankings, but Dinara Safina postponed her switch with No.1 Ana Ivanovic. Jankovic is now 88 points behind Ivanovic and can nudge her out of top spot by making it to the Rogers Cup final. (source: Reuters , photo: Getty Images ) Share This

Unfortunate Maria Sharapova to miss Beijing Olympics

July 31, 2008

Russia’s Maria Sharapova withdrew from this week’s Rogers Cup because of her persistent shoulder injury and stated that her participation in both the Beijing Olympics and the US Open was under question. Well, the 21-year-old Russian has just announced that as far as the Olympics are concerned, she'll have to overcome the disappointment of not playing at that great event. After yesterdays match I knew there was something seriously wrong with my shoulder. After taking a few different exams and MRI's this morning, the doctors found two small tears in the tendons of my shoulder . There are so many mixed feelings because last night they were almost positive there was something wrong with my nerve which could have ultimately been much more serious but after the tests this morning, for the first time in a while, they were able to give me a different answer and a different problem. But on the other hand this is something that needs a lot of time to heal , which really hurts me to say that I have to miss the Olympics. I'm currently packing up really quick to hop on the plane and head to NY for a second opinion but I wanted to let all of you know first that there's no chance of me competing in Beijing . The timing is so unfortunate and this makes me more sad than anything. Too bad. I just hope that this injury will leave Sharapova alone in reasonable time and not affect her overall career. Shoulder injury bothers Maria Sharapova again, US Open and Olympics participation uncertain

July 31, 2008

Maria Sharapova defeated Marta Domachowska 7-5 5-7 6-2 in her opening match at the Rogers Cup in Montreal but after the victory the three-time Grand Slam champion withdrew from the tournament with a shoulder injury which could prevent her from playing at the US Open and the Olympics. The 21-year-old Sharapova will have an MRI scan and the test results will determine whether she will be able to compete at the US Open and the Olympics , two great events coming up in August. The world No.3 twice required treatment on a right shoulder in the second-round match against Domachowska which was nearly three hours long, and Sharapova served 17 double-faults in that time. Adidas by Stella McCartney Fall/Winter 2008

July 29, 2008

I came across these photos of adidas by Stella McCartney Fall/Winter 2008 collection , and I find it absolutely amazing, just like all her collections. I don’t know whether I'm a bigger fan of adidas by Stella McCartney clothes and beautiful Maria Kirilenko who wears them on tennis courts, or Nike and Maria Sharapova who always bring something extraordinary. Hmm, I might opt for Stella! Only if the world No.20 Kirilenko stayed in tournaments longer to showcase the beautiful outfits more. (photos via Tennis Forum ) Share This
